Marco Brangero
Brangero, Nebbiolo, Barolo, Piedmont, 2019
RedBarolo di Brangero is a traditional vision of Barolo, revisited in a softer and more composed way. Therefore, Barolo Brangero is ready-to-drink now or can improve with a few more years. In the glass it appears a pale garnet red color. This wine is broad and powerful, interacting with fresh notes of black cherry, cherry, plum and black berry fruit, coupled with balsamic and sweet spice fragrances. The taste is structured, rounded with excellent aromatic depth, elegantly softened by dense and well-rounded tannins. Vegan.
Intensive labor by hand, plowing, trimming, pruning, control of yield, and harvests done by hand. Each harvest, made after an accurate summer pruning. Minimal intervention and sustainable farming are practiced. Yields 35 hl per ha.
Brangero Barolo takes place through a submerged capsule maceration on the skins for about 40 days after fermentation, followed by aging wooden tanks and then tonneau barrel for about 30 months. Long aging and surpassing Barolo requirements. 6 Additional months aging in bottle before release.
Growers are calling 2019 a classic vintage in terms of the growing season, primarily based on the delayed start and mid-October harvest, patterns not seen in the three vintages that preceded 2019, nor in the years that followed it. Winter was drier than normal, but there was plenty of rain in April, May, July and September. There was no spring frost. Rain during the flowering in May reduced the crop by 15 to 30 percent. But there was adequate water for the vines in the end, and the temperatures cooled in August. September witnessed warm days and cool nights, perfect for developing aromas and accumulating both sugars and ripe tannins—more hallmarks of a classic vintage.
