Bonzano, Castello di Uviglie
Bonzano, Gajard, Barbera del Monferrato, Piedmont, 2021
Red"Gajard" in our dialect means “vigorous and exuberant”, just like the personality of this wine with its intense color, a red as straightforward as the earth from which it springs, rich in aromas of freshly picked red fruit. On the palate, the freshness perfectly expresses the identity of the grape variety. Vegan.
Our winery has achieved a dual sustainability certification (SQNPI and Equalitas), which ensures both environmental respect - through integrated pest management practices, respect for fauna and flora, and regenerative agriculture - fairness in labor, and economic sustainability.
Manual harvesting. Crushing destemming. Variable percentage of full cluster. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature with daily pump-overs for 2 weeks. Malolactic fermentation and aging on lees for a minimum of 12 months. Chill filtration and bottling. Aging in bottle for a minimum of 12 months.
The most challenging year humanity has experienced since the end of World War II did not reflect in the quality of the grapes, which instead enjoyed a rare vintage in Piedmont, characterized by limited but regular precipitation and favorable weather. Heroic farmers took them to the fields even wearing masks to protect their plants, and their efforts were rewarded. Only in October did some storms damage parts of the harvest here and there. From an oenological perspective, 2021 can be remembered as an excellent vintage.
